In 2001, Lin Chuan-Chu was living in the United States and enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Arts MFA program at Goddard College in Vermont, where he began working with animation, photography, and performance art. His animation Typhoon was influenced by William Kentridge, as well as the methods of traditional shadow puppetry and paper-cutting. Created through frame-by-frame photography of charcoal drawings, the work draws on memories of rural life. The ink paintings from Typhoon are now in the collection of the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, while the animation is held by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung.
