Oil Painting
2006 - 2011

In 2006, Lin Chuan-Chu attended a residency in Beijing. The simplicity of the living environment led him back to painting. In Father, he used a haystack as a metaphor for his father’s place within the family and rural life, revisiting family memory through painting.

During this period, his paintings continued to revolve around family, rural life, and the land. In 2010, Lin returned to live in his hometown area of Jinshan and Wanli, continuing the theme of Mother Earth through depictions of familiar local landscapes. His oil landscapes developed a distinctive material quality: rather than relying on the textural brushwork associated with traditional ink painting, he moved away from conventional techniques while retaining a deeply literati sensibility.
